Omron Environmental Management

The Omron Group is constantly working towards reducing the burden on the environment through its relentless environmental protection efforts as a "good corporate citizen".  Our aim is to be a leading 21st century company that brings harmony between "ecology" and "economy"

This translates into an effective effort in the long-term maximization of corporate value and the promotion of a sustainable society that constantly recycles.

In response to the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive which will go into effect in July 2006, we have obtained information regarding the amount of regulated chemical compounds present in about 170,000 purchased parts, materials and products, and discontinued the use of banned substances in about 30% of our products by replacing parts and materials with ecologically friendly ones.

About RoHS

The reduction of hazardous substances can be accomplished by banning six substances that have a history of posing risks to human health and to the environment. These six substances are lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls and polybrominated diphenyl ether.

The RoHS directive states that as of July 1, 2006 producers of certain categories of electrical or electronic equipment will not be able to offer for sale any product that contains any of the banned hazardous substances in the 25 European Union member nations.

The US and China are also looking into similar regulation as countries around the world increasingly put pressure on private enterprises to stop using hazardous chemicals and heavy metals in products.
